Mother Language Day celebrated at GNDU

Amritsar, 21 january (Nirpakh Awaaz) –School of Punjabi studies of Guru Nanak Dev University organised Mother Language Day here today in the in the conference hall of University. This program was dedicated to International mother language day as declared by UNESCO that every twenty first of February will observed as Mother Language Day.

Dr C. G. Shankar eminent scholar from Madurai University presided over while Dr Bhupinder Singh Khehra, former Dean Languages Punjabi University Patiala delivered the keynote address. Dr Raminder Kaur, Head of the department and coordinator of the function welcome the chief guest and others.

Dr Bhupinder Singh said that structure of Punjabi language is changed due to the formation theories of the language due to the development of Technology at the international level. New words are adopted from international language by replacing old words but these changes are not dangerous to language and these are positive changes.  Dr C G Shankar in his lecture said that we but respect our mother tongue and should always work for the promotion.  He said that we should learn other languages should not forget our mother tongue. Dr Darya from the department presented vote of thanks.  Students of the department also presented poems and songs dedicated to mother tongue Dr Harbhajan Singh Bhatia from the department also gave details about the importance of mother language. A large number of students and faculty were present.

Meanwhile,  Hindi Department of the University also celebrated Mother Language Day in which a large number of students and faculty participated. Dr Sudha Jitender  head of the department while giving the details about the importance of mother language said that one should learn other languages but always give preference to mother  language. Students and Research Scholars also presented their views on this occasion.
