MLK Birthday celebration Was As voices of Change
Baltimore MD 25 January ( Raj Gogna)-Yesterday The New Interfaith coalition of Baltimore County celebrated the Martin Luther King birth day with a celebratory luncheon. The participants came from different faith groups. Jewish community was represented by Howard Libit; Sikhs were represented by Dr. Surinder Singh Gill; Aisha Khan and shahab quarni represented the Muslims; Kalpesh & Dr. Jagan Arramraju represented the Hindu community and the Christian community was represented by Elder Joseph Sanders and Dr. Carla J, Debnam.
Dr. Anthony Brown was the master of ceremony. Mr. Jason Newton from WBAL television welcomed the participants. Elder Joseph Sanders, Bishop Dwayne Debnam, Stan Weiman and Dr. Surinder Singh Gill discussed various aspects of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and teaching.
The celebration represented a new effort in building a community of faith and harmony. The organizers let everybody know that “ Under the unity championed by Dr. King this event is an opportunity to celebrate diversity , promote a sense of community unity and honor individuals who stand out in the region as voices of change“ The Interfaith group honored the following persons for their commitments to transforming the communities they live in : Diane Bell-McKoy, Ken Darden, Gurcharan Singh world bank,Kanwaljit Singh Soni, Martha Weiman, Louise Geczy, Shahida Siddiqi,MD, Verletta White, Sridhar Vaneemreddy and Indira Sharma.
