GNDU Colleges eligible to enroll Ph.D. student: Viva to be conducted through video conferencing
Syndicate Meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University held
Amritsar, January 07: The Syndicate meeting of the Guru Nanak Dev University was held here today in the Syndicate Room of the University. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over the meeting while Registrar Prof. K.S. Kahlon presented the agenda. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and members of Syndicate were present to discuss various issues.
In the meeting, it was also decided that teachers of constitute Colleges of the university are also eligible to enrol PhD students as per UGC rules. The proposal of executing the Ph.D. viva through video conferencing was also approved in the meeting. It has also been decided that the Ph.D. eligibility test will be valid for two years.
A large number of vocational courses to be started in affiliated colleges has also be approved in meeting. For smooth conduct and proper utility of various grants received from UGC, Punjab Govt. and other sources, the appointment of Prof. Incharge construction and planning has also been accorded by syndicate. In an another decision, the approval to honorary services of four professors and advisor to newly established Agriculture department has also been given.
The approval to constitute central purchase cell has also been given in this meeting . Under this, the purchase of stationary and other such material will be done by this committee. The approval to 11 Phd thesis has also been given this syndicate meeting.
He presented the works accomplished by the university in last year, works under progress and the future plans of the university in the meeting.
He also announced that the annual convocation will be held in March 2019 and proper arrangements are bein made for perfect execution of the grand event.
Prof. Sandhu also made statement about the financial status of the university and revealed that the grant provided to this university is very less as compared to the other universities. The financial trouble is a major issue and needed to be dealt on urgent basis. He expressed his worries about the lack of finances for sustaining the existing plans and executing the future plans. He appealed to the Cabinet Minister Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MLA Mr. Harminder Singh Gill to resolve the issue of scarcity of the funds through Punjab Govt. and to provide the financial strength to the university.
