Delhi High Court orders to vacate National Herald House in two weeks

Delhi December 21, 2018:  The Delhi High Court today dismissed the plea by Associated Journals Ltd – AJL – publisher of National Herald, challenging the Centre’s order to vacate the premises in the national capital which is violation of lease conditions by the publisher of National Herald newspaper.

.The premises at ITO has to be vacated within two weeks time after which the proceedings under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971 would be initiated, states Court orders.

Centre and Land and Development Office (L&DO) in the order has said that no press has been functioning in the premises for at least past 10 years and it was being used only for commercial purposes in violation of the lease deed.

However, the weekly newspaper ‘National Herald on Sunday’ resumed on September 24 last year and the place of publication was the ITO premises, AJL had said, adding that the Hindi weekly newspaper Sunday Navjivan was also being published since October this year from the same premises.
