Punjab Spell Bee Championship – the first ever in its kind in Punjab.

Students and teachers from all over the Punjab were converged for the Punjab Spell Bee Championship – the first ever in its kind in Punjab. The Punjab Spell Bee Championship aimed at creating awareness of the possibilities of using varied words in oral and written expression and to add words to the active vocabulary of students. The championship received a massive response. The participants from all the districts of Punjab of Standard XI and XII participated. In the initial phase, an online test was conducted from which top 16 teams competed in the Semi-Finals. The Semi Final round consisted of both oral and written rounds. From there the top performers battle it out for the Finals, which showed a grueling competition between four teams. The winners showcased their skills and expertise and raised the level of the competition. The audiences were dazzled and spellbound by their knowledge about spellings of words.Dr. Prem Kumar, Vice Chancellor, GNA University welcomed all the guests and introduced the program to the attendees. He said that GNA University has always endeavored to recognize, nurture & celebrate the uniqueness of every child. He also thanked the media & Sponsors for supporting the event. He also thanked the teachers, principals and parents for their support in making the competition a grand success. S. Gurdeep Singh Sihra, Pro Chancellor, GNA University believes in encouraging children to excel in the field of their choice. He also said that the art of spelling correctly is growing passionately as a culture amongst the children in Punjab and the Punjab Spell Bee Championship is the perfect platform to add fuel to this passion. Mr. Surendra Seth, former editor of Dainik Bhaskar was the Event Icon who was very happy to see the young faces full of dreams. He motivated students to take opportunity to identify and showcase their distinctive talents and skills. He also gave an inspiring speech and encouraged the participants to excel at the competition and in their life. Dr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, Dr. Jernail Singh Anand and Dr. Tejinder Kaur- the three jury members said this Punjab Spell Bee set a new benchmark for young spelling fans across Punjab. They also appreciated the maiden attempt of the university who gave an opportunity to enrich and educate students about the art of spellings.Winners: Army Public School, Jalandhar Cantt bagged a stupendous cash award of Rs 51,000, a winning trophy and an individual memento. Akal Academy, Bilga and Cambridge International School, Phagwara secured second and third prize winning Rs 31,000 and Rs 21,000 with trophies respectively. Mr Sunil Sarad, Registrar, Mr. Sameer Varma, Ms Monika Hanspal, Mr. C. R. Tripathy, Dr. Disha Khanna were also present to grace the occasion. A group of moderators and spellers from the teaching community facilitated the smooth organization and execution of the event. Summing up, the competition helped the children to familiarize with the spellings and usage of many unfamiliar words.
